Starting Kindergarten

Starting primary school is an exciting milestone for children and families. To support your child’s transition into Kindergarten, our school offers a range of orientation and transition activities throughout the year. In Term 1 and early Term 2, we hold two open days to introduce families to our school environment. During Terms 2 and 3, children can participate in the Bright Beginnings Playgroup to help them become familiar with school routines and make new friends. In Term 3, parents and carers have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with the principal to discuss your child’s needs and answer any questions. Finally, in Term 4, we run two orientation days to prepare your child for their first day of Kindergarten. These activities are designed to ensure a smooth and confident start to primary school for your child and a supportive experience for your family.

What to expect in Kindergarten

Learning and development

Kindergarten follows the NSW curriculum. Children build early skills in literacy, numeracy, creative arts, health and physical activity, science and technology. Learning through play also supports social, emotional and academic growth.

Daily routines

Children learn routines such as morning arrival, snack and lunch breaks, lining up, using bubblers and moving safely around the school. Teachers guide children as they settle in but practising at home helps.

Best Start Assessment

At the start of the year, all Kindergarten children take part in the Best Start Assessment. This is a friendly, one-on-one activity where teachers learn about your child’s literacy and numeracy skills. It is not a test and needs no preparation.
