Our support unit - inclusive learning hub

A support unit within a mainstream school is dedicated to supporting students with autism and/or intellectual disabilities. It provides specialised programs and personalised assistance in a welcoming and inclusive environment, helping students to develop academically, socially, and emotionally alongside their peers. The unit collaborates closely with families and staff to ensure every student receives the tailored support and resources they need to reach their full potential.

Welcome to Blakehurst Public School's Inclusive Learning Hub, our dedicated support unit. We offer three classes, each with 7 student placements. Our hub is designed to support students with a primary diagnosis of autism and/or an intellectual disability, providing a nurturing and inclusive learning environment.

How to enrol

Enrolment into our inclusive learning hub is different from other public schools. It involves a referral and placement process. If you believe our inclusive learning hub may be the right setting for your child, your local school is the first place to start. They will work with you to understand your child’s needs and help you explore the right support options available.

  1. Find your local school: you can use School Finder to locate your local public school.
  2. Discuss support pathways: talk to your local school about available support pathways for your child.

Enrolment is considered when:

For placement in the hub, your child's current school must submit an application called an access request. This is done in consultation with the family. A local placement panel then reviews the application and makes a recommendation.
